Disability Strategy

In 2000 The British Film Institute agreed corporate aims in terms of diversity. From these aims we have agreed to target three UK minority groupings and to more effectively engage with them over the next three years. These minority groups include: Black and Asian communities, people with disabilities and lesbian and gay communities.

In 2001 we completed our corporate Cultural Diversity Strategy, which focused on engaging with Black and Asian communities. In 2002 with the support of consultants Anne Pointon and Irene Whithead the bfi embarked on developing a corporate Disability Strategy with Action Plans to more effectively engage with disability issues and ensure that the bfi was working towards compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). After a process of consultation this Strategy was completed in final draft in December 2002 and already its action plans are being rolled out across the bfi's many functions and outputs. The delivery of the Action Plans will be monitored and reported on annually. The completed Disability Strategy is available to download as an Adobe Acrobat PDF, below.

The roll-out of this Strategy will be monitored over the three year period plan.
