Jihan-el-Tahri uses rare archive film, revelatory interviews and beautiful African cinematography to tell the story of Cuba's role in the fight for African independence.

Writer and historian Richard Gott will introduce this screening. Richard worked for many years at the Guardian as a leader-writer, foreign correspondent and as the features editor.

From the days of Che Guevara's military campaign to avenge the assassination of Lumumba in the Congo, through to the fall of apartheid in South Africa, 300,000 Cubans fought alongside African revolutionaries. With compelling cinematic language, Jihan el-Tahri chronicles the crucial role that Cuba played in African independence, using rare archive film, revelatory interviews and African cinematography.
