Eraserhead

Lynch's terrifying yet hilarious first feature film took five years to make and is still one of his most experimental works. With its nightmarish atmosphere, the world inhabited by the film's protagonist couldn't be further away from that of the reporter in The Passenger, and yet, in its portrait of Henry, a withdrawn, sensitive man, and an industrially noisy environment, Eraserhead evokes a similar tragic sense of escapism and its intrinsic impossibility.
