The Boots + Palle Alone in the World
Two delightful children's films that deserve to be known.
See The Boots, in all its simplicity and gripping conviction, and you will wonder why it isn't shown all the time. Plus Palle Alone in The World, which should be in every home beside Toy Story.
The Boots
Ask cinephiles what the great kids' movies are and they will perhaps say The Red Balloon, or The Wizard of Oz or ET, but the simplicity of The Boots, about a girl who craves then loses a pair of red boots, perhaps beats any of them. After you see it, in all its simplicity and gripping conviction, you wonder why it isn't shown all the time.
Palle Alone in the World
Palle Alone in The World, about a boy who wakes up to find everyone is gone and so, for example, he can drive the trams himself, should be in every home beside Toy Story.
That these two films aren't known says something about our stupid narrowing of young people's cinema.
