We believe that:
- off-screen inclusion will drive on-screen representation and that will bring broader audiences to the industry including the BFI
- talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not
- attracting and developing a range of skilled professionals from under-represented backgrounds is crucial to the continued success of the screen industries
- we don’t need labels, great stories have universal appeal – and we want to see a more representative range of stories reaching wider audiences
- there are clear cultural and commercial opportunities and benefits created by embedding inclusivity within our industry
- we can support the industry by sharing knowledge, providing great resources and encouraging take-up of the BFI Diversity Standards and our guidance and principles tackling bullying and harassment
- everyone should have the opportunity to develop a lifelong relationship with the moving image
- the BFI’s role is to look to the future – with the BFI acting as a bridge to build a more joined up approach
- inclusion is not our biggest challenge, but our greatest untapped opportunity
